I have not heard but is good that Bobby started to speak. Might be he will break the isolation.
I've just listened to the interview. They are talking about Fischer's bank account in the UPS bank and the recent terminating ischer’s account by UPS. Fischer explains his view why UPS did this. He thinks that the United States stands behind all this. The American government wants to criminalize him and inspire all banks not to make business with Fischer. Fischer's money has been remitted to an Islandic bank yet Fischer holds it possible that even the Islandic bank where Fischer’s money is now could be influenced by the U.S. to terminate connections with Fischer.
Fischer speaks fluently and seems to know many details on banking businesses. The tone of his voice is normal and agreeable to be listened to. I find it a little sad that the interviewer focuses all questions on Fischer. I could imagine that if the questions would go into other directions you could talk to Fischer on every topic you want to and get interesting answers.
At the end of the interview the two speakers discuss some particular problems of the chess world.
It is so called 'freedom' in US.
If you have other point of view then government the freedom is finished.
Fischer(everyone) does have the right to have his political opinions. He could ever speak that someone from other planet is governing the world and nobody shall blame him for that.
The official reason is match in Yugoslavia but the same time there were import of chessbooks from there and... it was ok ???

Ya, Fischer's banking tips were interesting, obviously he is very well informed on the subject. Ya, it would have been interesting to hear his views on other topics too. And to all those that ridicule his lack of formal education, this interview should put that to rest once and for all.
The interviewer tended to splutter quite a bit, at times it appeared he was leading Fischer into saying something uncautionary, but Fischer was sharp and sensed that.
This year, the Biography Channel has featured Fischer almost every month (a total count of 20 showings from Jan to date - yet he does not feature on their top 10 list). However, the Bio channel has to rehash this show or shoot another one obliterating the editors of "Bobby goes to war", and the vapid, trite Biographer, as these guys were more keen on promoting themselves and bolstering their book sales, than any serious, objective perspective on the child prodigy genius.
Another point which Fischer mentiones in his answers is that analysts, especially Russian ones, never evaluated Fischer's moves as to be thoughtful.
Fischer states for example, that in a game he won against Taimanov, Taimanov's moves were assessed to be brilliant, but not Fischer's, though Fischer won the game.
Fischer's move were considered to have been played luckily as if by a non-understanding child, so to speak, whereas Taimanov's moves witnessed strength and high education.
The fact that Taimanov lost in spite of high education they derive from sudden faults created by any circumstance.

Despite his best efforts, Fischer really cannot help himself with his paranoid ravings about his money being stolen.
Let's be clear here - from 1972-1992 Fischer attempted to create the perception that he had no interest in money and that he had become a down and out.
Fact is that Fischer accepted cash to play chess during 1972-1992.
Money is Fischer's God.
His kind are predisposed to materialism - they always have been that way.

I am a US citizen AND a former strong chess player. I would like to comment for a momment on Bobby's previous anti-semetic remarks. If we (as listeners) interpose the term "Rich, greedy, power mongers" - for Bobby's term "Jews" then his accounts have MUCH WEIGHT. Yes, he's right, there is a world wide conspiracy but it's not Jews, it's all people with huge amounts of money. Unfortunately I disagree with him that Jews are solely responsible for his discomfort - theres a bunch of greedy p-icks in the world - and they ain't all Jews. (Look at George W.! and his henchmen!)
Also, Bobby was taken advantage of (robbed) when his property was sold. Period. The fact the man was a Jew, has little to do with it, IMHO. SPECIFICALLY because many Americans, that I know, unfortunately would have done the same to him. The idea that americans are monetarily corrupt is 100% correct. They worship money in this country. So, anyone not just a Jew would do this to him.
Also, Bobby is a man that is held as a criminal by the US because of idiot sanctions by a HORRIBLY greedy and power hungry President - Whose son now missuses our country for his own gains. (The Criminal Iraq War) Hence his UBS problem is probably directly related to this petty and rediculous US GOVERNMENT. I can say MANY "educated and thoughtful" Americans are VERY anti-Iraq War and want us out of there now. ((So sorry to the Iraqi people and the rest of the Muslim world for the horrible US govt that now runs much of the worlds commerce.)) Americans are MUCH better people than our downright evil government!
Bobby has NOT resided in 'our' home country for MANY MANY years and he should not be held in criminal regard by the US UNLESS he really wanted to maintain his US citizenship - he does not. He rightly despises our greedy, godless and thoughtless US culture and escwews it. I respect that Fully.
I loved America but the citizens by-and-large are being dumbed down by television and a lack of educational standards.
So, Bobby's comment of the All mighty US dollar has weight. I would like for him to start offering challenges to International GM's to play chess against him on Iclandic televsion to be syndicated throughtout the world for money. Play one 960 game and one Traditional game and then break a potential tie with speed 960 and traditional. I am SURE Bobby is still a 2600 or better player and could garnish handsome wages for himself.
Before I thank him for his contribution to chess knowledge, and his shouldering of genius that Karpov and Kasparov jumped from, I would like to add that collusion by the Russians against Bobby in the 1960's was not parinoa - it was the truth. They wanted to win at all costs and they cared nothing (NOTHING) of sportsmanship or fair play. It's money, always money Bobby.
His comments in this interview on opening advantages is true. Memorization is destroying chess, chess is becoming a dead game.
YEs, Capablanca was truly wonderous, Morphy and Alekhin are truly great players. etc.

When Fischer talks about Chess he is so knowledgeable and very interesting and "normal"...but sadly on other subjects that he is asked to talk about Fischer has so much hate that his views become disappointing and misguided. However I enjoyed listening to the discussion .....
what i dont understand is fischer talking about having billions stolen from him in pasedena by the us goverment. what belongings could be worth that much. i would like to hear fischer expand upon this statement.

I may be wrong but I seem to recall Capablanca rebelling against too much "book" chess. He belive that new pieces should be introduced, such as the Chancellor and Archbishop, which incorporated the moves of the Rook-Knight, and the Bishop-Knight.
Nothing very new with Bobby's idea?

I wouldn't jam Bobby Fischer into this restricted system of elo-points although he himself strived to be the best of all during his active times and for a long time was.
However, I think that 2700 elo-points today mean something totally different than at the time when Bobby for the first time ever jumped over this bar.
Just compare Fischer's thrilling style of play and the way he swept his opponents from the board (when he succeeded in becoming the first chessplayer in history to crack the 2700 point) with the boring play of nowadays chessplayers who often do nothing else but sharing points with each other in such a harmless way in order to keep their ranking. None of them have the spirit of fight and struggle Fischer so excellently showed to us.
It would be such a thrilling event to me seeing one of those young modern 2700-players sitting lonely and without any help from outside at the board to play Robert James Fischer, who was known in his best time to be the most creative player of history.
Let them play Fischer-random chess which compels both of them to use their creativity and leads them out of any theory!
you may want to see his great battle with churche. this was the thing the greatest intellect and genius supposed to do.Yeah with ARMSTRONGISM or any other religion, when it becomes not sopportive but obsessive and abusive, when it becomes so interested in your pocket and more importantly to invasive towards you as an indvidual, towards your mind as your friend.
i am not that good chess player, that i can judge about the chess nowaday.
but i also think that chess is dead.
the games today are completely boring, there is no creativity in the games and then the whole opnening theory.....
its really ridiculous that some players, humans,... today claim that fisher was a bad player, was always lucky or whatever.
fisher at his time had a time where he won 90-95% of his games against other GM's!!
for sure there wasnt any "luck".
the problem of fisher that he's a genius seeing this sick world and cant come along with this.

Fischer is truly a lost soul.
The interview with Bobby Fischer on chess is inspirational and sharply astute. However the delve into politics is sad and delusional. Like so many geniuses his mind can only seem to focus on the negatives and having spent so much time abroad he has been sadly influenced by the pseudo-intellectual Socialist class warfare rhetoric that so many posters here mistake for intelligent analysis. He can’t even see his own arrogant hypocrisies in his own statements. He calls America’s founding fathers radicals for setting up a government where each individual guaranteed freedom by their God. And yet simultaneously he complains that his own freedom of speech is limited by the overseas press. Newsflash Mr. Fischer, the other countries around the globe develop their civil liberties as granted solely by government policy. So if they have a state run press like Cuba and China and North Korea (that you seem to admire so much), there is no freedom of speech my friend! The press there is wholly owed by the same neofacist Socialist progressives that agree with you on the war on terror sir! He speaks of a Jewish conspiracy while he himself was born form a Jewish family and ostensibly has millions of dollars in banks around the world. His attacks on President Bush and the American government is nonsensical socialist rambling taken word for word from the BBC reports that he claims are Jewish propaganda machines. His attack against Jewish people mirrors the same Al Qaida pamphlets that the Islamofacist kooks hand out in mosques around the globe! He complains about the loud music used to intimidate American held Islamofacists radicals at Gitmo, but never mentions that the practitioners of Islam chop the heads off their daughters’ for letting their burkas slip down (like in Canada last week sir!) or stone a pair of 16 year old youths to death for holding hands in public (like in Saudi Arabia last month sir!) Also he obviously has the money to hire an attorney to clear his name for the plainly unfair charges against him in the United States, not to mention and he has the public support of everyone in America! (Yes even though I disagree with his politics I admire his chess genius and stand behind him in his trumped up prosecution and I am not alone!) He has a good case to get reimbursed for his belongings. He obviously enjoys his outlaw status as it justifies his paranoid delusions. Unfortunately his great mind is so preoccupied with socialist propaganda he may not have the clear-headedness to rebound from this minor setback and come home clear his good name. It’s time for him to stand up for what he believes and take his rightful place in America. Come home sir, America needs you.
