Fischer Random Chess

Vesselin Topalov has made positve remarks regarding Bobby Fischer's version of chess - Fischer Random Chess.
The article can be found here Vesselin Topalov on Fischer Random Chess.
How do you feel about this version of the game?

The problem is that Bobby Fischer is suffering from dementia. His ability to survive a GM level chess game is simply not there anymore.
I would agree with you. I've read enough independent reports to support your comment too. A lot of Fischer fanatics would consider your comments (& my agreeing) to be "blasphemous" to them, but the facts are the facts.
You two, watch up that you won't get dementia.
People like the first two comments doesn't understand the question, so I would repeat
"How do you feel about this version of the game?"
Make your comments based on the question and not personal attacks that makes Fischer sick. You never know how difficult Fischer had passed thru so he became what he is now or if you do, you simply ignored it not analysing why he has that kind of point of view these days. I am not justifying Fischer, because I can't but who am I to make judgment like you first two did?
I have a strong feeling that the first two people who made the comments are suffering even worst sickness than dementia.
Probably alzheimer combined with dementia? They can't understand simple topic anymore. They just want to remember what they want to remember and focus more on the negative side. Its pity.
To answer the real topic:
RFC is a good alternative of classical chess though it is unreplaceable, computers would be unbeatable in the near future and would make players much stronger in preparationat the same time. Chess would become more homework than cracking head to analyze for brilliant moves.
Unlike FRC you do not need to prepare much, just pure analysis, that makes the game more attractive in the future for people who loves analysis than memorization.
But there are atleast four kinds of people in chess/FRC point of view
(1) Those who loves to memorize (2) Those who loves analysis
(3) Those who wants to do both memorization and analysis
(4) Those who doesn't want to think.
(5) Others who don't really contribute anything but to attack.
With these characteristics you know who are going to excel in what game. So FRC would continue to grow and probably would be much faster if Fischer himself would play it in the public and Classical chess would remain for years still with the presence of strong computer programs.
Hilarious !! I have to agree with the 1st 2 posters, & amazingly, they hit it right on the head. They're stating facts, so when the last post says you need to avoid personal attacks, sorry but they did NOT engage in any personal attack. They stated the fact that Fischer is suffering from a mental disorder, as he has his entire life (remember how he complained about the Russian's early in his career, when he first started exhibiting his paranoia ??).
It wasn't a sign of paranoia to complain of the Russians. It was the best thing he could do! And is still today!
Hilarious too!! Lots of people here doesn't understand the topic
"How do you feel about this version of the game?"
I am wondering which countries are these people came from. If they are from the native english speaking countries its pity.
Hey dont mind them, you should know that there are also bunch of stupid native english speakers failed to understand the topic. Not all native english speakers got A+ in their schools, lots failed too and you know some of them now, LOL. Amazing but you can't do anything about those inborn authistic even you remind them thousand times about the topic.
Fischer Random Chess (FRC) is a great idea. It provides for true righteousness amoung the players and makes it impossible for them to cheat each other. You can use everything you have ever learnt about chess except opening-variations. Playing opening-variations by heart, however, isn't really playing chess. So FRC is a great idea. That's typical for Bobby.
If Fischer is not going to speak up this year about his plan, I doubt he will ever come and play again.
As to the question: FRC would free people from open line memorization, since very few people could handle the premutations. That would emphasize tactics and strategy and would certainly be a benefit to the enjoyment of the game. But it wouldn't relieve the ominous shadow that computer domination of chess is throwing over us today. Fritz43 will be able to construct opening books even with an exponential increase in opening setups. So instead, must ask ourselves, "Why play against machines?" Poker is a game about bluffing people, and so is chess... we should admit the psychological aspects of the game and set aside the Man vs. Machine series of tournaments.
As to Fischer himself: it's simplistic to imply his chess skill suffers from his lopsided personality. Perhaps he is as strong as he is precisely because of his brain isn't wired mundanely. Such greatness comes with it's own price, one which most of us wouldn't pay. Leave it at that, and don't be a hater.
Random Chess:
This idea is not to my knowledge from Bobby Fischer. For example Benkö had this idea.
I must say that more I study Fischer´s comments the more I do agree him!
We are having a lot of more possibilities in random chess, but anyway we see new ideas all around in the old game!!
So it is far from dead!! On this point I do not agree compleatly with Fischer.
Now I come up with a new idea!
Why not held a match between Topalov and Fischer 50% of the games will be random chess and 50% in the old style??
You are welcome to contact me on e-mail.

50%/50% is actually not a bad idea - I like that.
Erlingur,
Your idea is the best!! Excellent! I hope Iceland will give their full support once again to Bobby to restart his career again in short period of time before it got totally wasted.
Iceland is very supportive and it is proven specially at one of the lowest moments of Bobby and I admire Iceland wholeheartedly.
Yes Iceland, please do something. Do not make it like US who actually left Fischer unsupported first then hunt him afterwards probably one of the reasons why Fischer got so much hatred accumulation. Things can change but I know its difficult, Fischer is an Icelander now anyway.
Erlingur,
In Iceland, do you hear any news regarding Fischer? Do you know if Iceland has any good plan for Fischer? Or Fischer will just continue to sit there like a rotten egg?
Who is Fischer? He sounds very popular but having read different stories from different authors, I do not know what is the truth now. I would probably start believing new authors now like Kasparov. New generation chessplayers I guess feels the same now. Can Fischer still prove something wrong about those authors. I would only believe if he will come out, talk and play again. Else, who is Fischer??
I helped my friend Saemi (Fischers bodyguard and friend) to write important letter, showing clearly that USA authorities have unfortunatly in this case compleatly wrong idea.
It was not at all forbidden to play in Yugoslavia for Fischer. Chess was not on the list!
The jews were only angry to Fischer, because Fischer became christian. All just a quiz of money.
Anyway I think that we will have a match this year 2006, likely random, but possibly mixed with other variation of the Royal game.
Take care!

Erlingur,
Are you talking that match with Fischer (to make sure)?
If yes, that would be very interesting and exciting.
I trust Iceland support than US in this case.
I am looking forward with that match and still bet for Fischer under Iceland Flag!!
I wanted the world to see that Fischer is still Fischer in Classical Chess.
FRC is also very interesting game that Fischer might promote and play so the whole world shall appreciate at its fullest, otherwise I am afraid that if it doesn't happen, it will die and soon forgotten or might not be as popular as chess for the next centuries despite of current GMs positive comments about it.
LONG LIVE ICELAND, hope to see Fischer playing again under Iceland flag!! I want to see that press release ASAP.
I hope it should happen before Topalov-Kramnik match. By the way, Kramnik is not playing these days preparing hard for his match against Topalov, I guess.
Ill what ill? Look at Korchnoi (my interpretation on Kasparov remarks).
Scheduling and press releases of the match is crucial. Time is of the essence.
I think we will have a Fisher match this year 2006. Nothing is in hand in this matter though.
take care,
with regards from Iceland
Erlingur,
I am so glad that Fischer is in good hand of Iceland now.
With full support of Iceland, nothing is impossible!!
Take care and I am sure you know better than anybody here what is highly probable to happen.
In case, you will have a chance to meet Fischer in Iceland or through Saemi, please tell that his avid fans around the world are still waiting with full trust in his brilliance.
Erlingur and Iceland, I salute you!

How about Topalov vs. Fischer match?
Or it is just a dream??
There is a misunderstanding about chess960 (FRC). The best reason to give chess960 a chance is that chess960 has demonstrated traditional "chess1" is incapable of producing more than a narrow slice of all the proper and interesting early middle game themes and patterns that are a natural part of fundamental chess. The differences go beyond the opening phase. We have been missing out. Chess960 middle games positions are different, but that does not mean they are "weird" or "awkward". Thinking they are weird only proves how severely chess1 has warped our proper understanding of what fundamental chess could and should be. Chess960 middle games arise out of logical play, so they are not awkward, whatever awkward means here. Visit Amazon.com books and search on 'chess960'.

Well explained Gene, but unless Fischer himself would come out and promote/market FRC, its attraction towards classical chessplayers will be much slower and will take probably another century/ies. Probably another 960 more years.
Although I love the legend dearly...Fishcher is finished...I think everyone needs to accept this. He's no Laker...he'Bobby and gave us some great games...lets just be thankfull for that. Fishcher is finished dudes....nothing left in the tank...sorry..cant see it...haha..Evem Kasparov coul d now beat himn in his sleep and I think Susan just was respectfull but she beat him bad too in the 90's/ The guy was great but his time has passed.
I met Fischer: He is willing to play a match, but does his demands of course.
regards from Iceland
ETh
Nah,
I disagree. 2600+ are never finshed (look at Korchnoi) Fischer can still beat any ONE of you Patzers who posted here!
I am a US expert and I can beat all of you and he would beat me Wwithout mercy - he would unbdoubtedly crush anyone you all know.
Now, that being said, a Match with Vesselin Topalov would be tough for Bobby (random chess of course regular chess Topalov would be a little too young and too strong at the memorization.) But Bobby would even play well in that arena I think. Lose, sure maybe. Fight hard, definitely!
I think you guys don't understand the strength of GM's - and Bobby is still a GM!
I think the 960 Fischer random chess would be a great sight! I hope Bobby accepts, the monetary gains would be large for him.
*Don't fear losing Bobby, Vasselin is a top-notch player that you can give all of the acolades to if he beats you. - think of the cash! ;O)
"Fischer Random" or Chess 960 should be and will be the new Modern Chess. Just as the current classic chess evolved to it's current state so the time is now right for it to move forward again to something better and Chess 960 is it. It might take a little time...but it so much better and hopefully it will revitalize the game, renew the excitement of competition & establish new chess stars for the fans.
Bobby made Chess what it is today and beyond. Chess Players will miss you around the world.
There is a littlem more talk that a compromise between traditional static chess and FRC-chess960 is needed.
Anoint for a period of 1-3 years a new start position (from FRC), and let the grandmasters focus on that one setup for a while, including building up opening "theory" for it.
With pure FRC the grandmasters cannot work their opening preparation magic and creativity that we all find so interesting and instructive.
Instead, pure FRC makes GMs look like class B players in the opening. The middle game position arising lack the sharpness that they normally have when opening phase play is prepared at home.
Pre-announce the new setup a good year in advance, so that chess book publishers have time to get books into the market (which is good for them and for buyers).
